Good day to everyone!

I'm looking for a replacement daily driver for my wife. She currently drives an LR3 with 305k so it's getting a little long in the tooth, thus this discussion. We tried the LR4 with SCV6 and liked the power but the unit we took for pre-purchase inspection had a super charger issue so we kept looking.

Recently we tried a couple 2017-2019 Discovery with the diesel Td6. What is a realistic lifespan of these engines? I've heard about the major DEF service that has to be done at some point. Is that typically every 100k km?

Next is the REAR timing belt.  It sounds like a very expensive job due to being on the back of the engine. No official schedule so what is a pragmatic mileage to change it?

Both vehicles we test drove were serviced from new at JLR, so I'm hoping there is a lower risk of diesel dilution of the oil causing main bearing failure.

Any experience or advice about these engines would be appreciated.

BTW, I've seen used Td6 with anywhere from 100-200k and prices vary wildly as a result

good day everyone!!
quick update, so we will meet in Leduc at 7am at the tutti frutti (41 athapaskan drive, leduc) its in the same parking lot as the Tim Hortons. we will probably leave around 8am-ish. drive highway 2A to wetaskiwin. it is a paved highway with a speed limit of 100km/h. however, we will travel at whatever speed we are comfortable at, there will be lots of classic cars on the road that day. once at the museum, we will all be guided to park together (except me lol) and enjoy the day from there. there is food vendors, visit the museum or just hangout until youre done for the day and ready to leave. 

Bill - do you have a driver and are you going to bring the flags again? 

I don't have the club flags, but I've asked Dave and Isaac if either of them have the flags.    I'll try and bring them along.

It should - my other truck has the belts mounted exactly as in your second picture.  Hard to get a picture from the other side, though.

Thanks Mike for the info. With the anchor bolts at the door sides, either the pillar or floor sill, I just want be sure it will pass inspection before drilling holes! Cheers Craig
