North America will be witnessing a total eclipse on this date. The event will start from Oregon all the way down to South Carolina. It will pass through Idaho close to Idaho Falls.  The path of Totality is 120 km wide roughly. It's part of Saros 145 series. Next one will be after 18 years over Asia.
You would be able to witness the partial eclipse in Alberta as well.

This event would present a great opportunity for a good field trip for the astronomy and photography puffs in the club.  Tenting and camping will be the options available. As this event was predicted for the last 18 years, hotels and motels rooms are going up to $3000 dollar a night:-)). The travel would be around 1500 km each way for the Edmonton folks. Lethbridge would be way less.

Few links to dive into this topic from NASA:

As well, a nice write up from the NikoUsa site about the event and how to photograph it

Some pictures are attached for excitement

Let's see who would be interested in a week of camping and travel for this event.

That would be something to see!  Remind me again in the New Year and I'll mark my social calendar.  ;)
