I seem to be having continued success with the new DOM-16 coating available at NAPA. At less than half the cost of the POR-15, it seems to be even darker black, with better hide of the steel. POR went on as thin, but wouldn't cover as well in thin areas. The DOM does seem to be a bit better at leveling as well. Brush strokes seem less noticeable versus the POR.

The method for treating pitted corroded steel that seems to work  best is cabinet blasting it all, then subsequently soaking the pitted areas in Evaporust at least overnight. Rinsing and drying all this off, and a final short cabinet blast to clean it off before directly applying the DOM-16.

sandblast and galvanize...that's the answer LOL    ;D
