Quality of Britpart/Bearmach Clutches for Series II

It looks like my clutch only had a bout 20kms left in it after getting back from BCOR. I was driving the truck around town a bit yesterday and it's clear the the clutch is slipping badly.

I *think* it's just badly worn since it doesn't engage until the top of the pedal stroke, but obviously oil contamination or slave rod adjustment may be an issue as well. Either way, I'll be pulling it apart to inspect. Since I'll be in there I'd like to have a replacement clutch assembly on hand.

Does anyone have any expirience with the usual aftermarket providers with this part? Are any known to be junk? TIA

Any thoughts on "stuff to do while I'm there" are appreciated. I assume that I'll need a clutch alignment tool, throw out bearing, rear main seal....

This is for my 1961 Series II petrol 2.25.

In my opinion, it is not worth getting any non OEM parts for the clutch system. It is such a pain when it fails and the work to change it is high. It is best to change everything while you are there and make sure the flywheel gets machined.

The bite point is not really related to wear as the hydraulics compensate for the change in thickness of the clutch. Make sure you have proper free play. If not, that would cause it to slip.

It definitely seems to be grabbing later in the pedal stroke, so it sounds like oil contamination seems likely. It's probably touching right where it always has, but is slipping completely until there is more pressure on it.

Pangolin is the only source of OEM clutch discs that I can find, and they don't seem to carry the pressure plate. The other usual suspects don't indicate the manufacturer, which is rarely a good thing.

AP brand or Genuine clutch is available via the "normal" source....

Looks like the pressure plate is either aftermarket or genuine only.  It probably does not matter as much as the clutch itself.  A good place to look at what options are available is LRDirect.

It might be worth investigating if you can change to the later Series 2A/3 9.5" clutch as it is larger and more common and uses a modern design.  A quick search, https://forums.lr4x4.com/topic/86653-land-rover-series-2a-clutch/ says the flywheels may accept either option.

I've just pulled the 9.5" clutch of off of my NADA parts truck, so I'll be able to test fit the larger clutch before I order parts. The 9" style flywheel is supposed to be adaptable, but I have the 9.5" flywheel as well, so I should be able to make it all work together.

I'm working by myself in a small garage, so this job will go on hold until I can retrieve my dad's engine hoist from the Crowsnest.

This is when you have a club "gathering"...  Hoists show up and engines leave trucks shortly after.

Yup!!!!   Many hands, quick work and it doesn't hurt to offer a little food and drink along the way. ;)

It's a great idea, but I have the kind of garage that I have to step out of to change my mind.

Hope for good weather and move it onto the drive way.   They're a hearty bunch ;-)

You're still overestimating the resources that I have at my disposal ;). I'm downtown in a century house, so I don't actually have a driveway :(.

The second I block the alleyway my neighbours with the small Porsche SUV show up. It doesn't seem to matter that the H-shaped alley has four access points, I'm always inconveniencing them. They have dark tinted windows, so it's impossible to get a read on them, although their unwillingness to get out of the car combined with their willingness to use their horn gives me a hint. It doesn't help that they seem to numerous short trips throughout the day. My other neighbours are all super cool and are willing to go around, or even lend a hand when I'm trying to get non-runner into the garage.

A pub night for the YYC crowd could be fun though.

There might be a DIY garage in Calgary. I know there's one in Edmonton. A flat patch of gravel and a few days might get it done too.
