German Travellers with Clutch Issues

I've been approached by a German couple, Sandra and Christian, who are travelling across Canada in their Defender overland camper they had shipped over to Halifax.  It's a TD5 with a R380 and it's having clutch issues. They made it as far as Calgary.  The Defender can still be driven but it's making noises and shifting is difficult. They've been in touch with TRS and I mentioned the Sports Car Center if it'll make to Edmonton. Ideally Christian would like to find someone who has the skills and facilities where he can assist and know what's involved in case he's on his own next time. They realize parts will likely need to be ordered but they fortunately have time on their side.

Is there anyone in the club who may be interested in helping out and lending a hand to some fellow Land Rover enthusiasts in need of a favour?  If you have any ideas I can pass them along or put you in touch with Sandra and Christian.

The flywheel has probably come loose. Not as quick and cheap as a normal clutch job. The problem is that you want somewhere with a lift and tranny jack because pulling these engines is a lot a work.

Bert had LR/Jag Edmonton contact them this spring to replace a clutch assembly for a gentleman in Ft Mac.   Apparently they didn't know how to do it.   It's a big job though.

Best to contact them to see:   Sales@sportscarcentre.ca

If they do have to have the work done by a shop they can save an enormous amount of coin by stripping out the interior themselves, and then reinstalling it.   That's a hefty bunch of time right there ;-)

Seats, centre console, matting/carpeting, electrical bits and any other bits mounted in there that will have to be taken out to get at the bell housing.   It all adds up to hours on the work sheet ;)

But on a side note.....we've had a very nice pair of german travellers arrive today with their green/gray 2000 Td5, at the shop this morning.   They will be staying at the bosses place a for few days, and might even be here next Wednesday for the gathering too....depending on the parts arrival. ::)

Well, "most" of the parts arrived at the fedex station today but we'll see if the get sent out for delivery today or Monday.

It's great to see the Land Rover community coming together. A special thanks goes out to Bert, Bill, and the guys at The Sports Car Centre.

Here's a pic of Sandra and Christian's overland rig. They're livin' the dream.
