Title: Poison Mountain and China Head Peak trail status
Post by: binch on July 27, 2025, 11:36 PM
I've been reading up on this trail hoping to give it a run in August but I'm starting to learn there maybe issues with access to sections of the trail.

Has anyone else heard anything about sections eliminated over 1920m elevation????

Wasn't there a Rover Landers of BC trip in that area just a few weeks ago?  You might want to check in with AndyD.

I had a look at the roverlanders forum and the last info I found about China and Poison was July of 2020.

Did you see something I missed???

It was in July. Look in the Events section of their forum. It's labeled South Chilcotin Explorer.

I think the main writeup is in the club member section.

QuoteThe basic route is departing Pemberton taking a remote off-road loop heading north up the Hurley Pass, eventually returning to Lillooet on Tuesday around noon (ish).
So, starting along the Hurley Pass, Truax Mountain, Carpenter Lake, Mud lakes, then we have 3 different routes in mind. We will start with #1 and if not doable move to #2 and so on ....
1- The Roaster Lake Cabin Route, Brown Lake, Gang Ranch Bridge, Big Bar Canyon (mostly unexplored).
2- The South loop around Poison Mountain, (sorry to say Poison Mountain is now closed to 4x4), China Head Route, Big Bar Canyon. (somewhat explored).
3- The Basalt Cliff Columns, Black Lake, Gang Ranch, Big Bar Canyon (somewhat explored).

I heard something about area above 1900m (?) being off limits now.  Is that going to be the new norm for all areas, or specific areas?😟

That was discussed at one point in Alberta.
