Title: The hot springs and trails event. July 5 - July 8 2025
Post by: Chris on April 13, 2025, 06:18 PM
A summer of hot springs:

Day 1 is July 5th, we will be back July 8th.

we will hit 3, possibly 4 different hot springs with 1 being a resort. I have added times, however add an
hour or so to each one to account for fuel stops, food stops and weighed down Land
Rover speed.
The trip up Rady creek is not the most difficult, however there is some pinstriping, any
Land Rover on AT tires can do this trail.  Grey creek pass can be bumpy, so airing down will make this more tolerable.
on day 4, if we do koko claims, it'll be similar in difficulty to Rady creek. The FSRs up to highway 93 is well groomed, we can make a game day decision on this one.
Most of these hot springs will make us smell like Sulfur, I do have a shower awning, so
anyone bringing kids can get them showered and cleaned, or yourselves.  I'll bring extra water
and propane for the heated shower. Though we can always get water from a clean lake for
shower water too.
By all means this is a family friendly trip, bring the kids, grandkids, bring non landrover
friends in their overlanders too!!
Theres ton of youtube videos on koko claims and Rady creek, have a look so you know what
the trails look like.

Day 1. Edmonton to canyon hot springs 6.5hrs. Camping near revelstoke. (we will meet the
calgary crew in the town of field on highway 1)

Day 2. From Revelstoke we head south on 23 to halfway hot springs. 2.5hrs. Camping at
Rady creek, what a view this will be, trust me.

Day 3. Leave Rady creek, head south to Balfour, ferry crossing to Crawford bay, head across
grey creek pass towards Kimberly. head north from Kimberly to Lussier hot springs. 6hrs.
Camping will be east of Lussier, there's a provincial park campground, I believe you need
cash for this site, might on the honor system, I'll look into this before we leave.

Day 4. From this point we have two options. A: cross Koko claims to Elkford and home. B:
head north across various FSRs until we hit highway 93 and end up at lake Louise to head
home.

Please try to confirm before the end of June, let me if you have any friends bringing their overlanders so I have a number of vehicles coming!!

Sounds great Bill!
So far we are at:

3 Land Rovers, 1 jeep, 1 toyota(maybe)

Two of us are pretty camera heavy, so there will be lots of footage for this trip, even some Drone footage is coming! 😉

After speaking with some locals, it appears its too early for Rady creek, so I will have a revised schedule by the end of the week.
If anyone knows of an overland route in that area to get from highway 6 south of shelterbay to highway 31 in the direction of Belfour, let me know. I'll look into it myself over the week.

Not really but after Halfway you could take the FSR through Wilson Lake - Beaver Lake - Wilson Creek Falls for a bit more scenery.  Just east of Nakusp. Can always then stop in at Sandon and Cody for some historical tourism.

as per above, the adjustment will be as follow.
instead of heading up over the east side of trout lake to hit rady FSR, due to snow, we will head down the west side, check out halfway hotsprings, head south to naksup, make a game day decision on seeing naksup hot springs or moving forward to wilson lake fsr, we will travel along there, i hear its a beautiful area. this will connect us back to the highway in which we will end up going east to kaslo, again, another game day decision based on time if we head up buchanan fire lookout. afterwards continue on our route acrosss the ferry and cross grey creek pass. which I was made aware this week, is now open!!

let me know if you have any questions or ideas.

currently we are at

4 LRS, 1 jeep, 1 toyota (maybe)

Hi Gang,

Your Kelowna rep here. I've only been on one day trip with you guys and that was because I was in Banff couple of years ago when you had day outing west of Calgary.

What time do you expect to be at Halfway River Hot Springs. I could meet you there or if I miss you can meet at Rady Creek.

Did I see someone post that a Toyota might be coming? I wouldn't ask but my buddy has a forerunner and loves Hot Springs. let me know if that's cool to have a Toyota if not, I'll just send him pics like I normally do lol.

Hello! I expect to be at halfway hotsprings on day two(the sunday) hopefully around 12-1 so long as we leave at a good time.
We won't be doing Rady creek, there's still too much snow up there(as per two weeks ago unless you've heard of someone getting there recently?) and will be doing the Wilson lake fsr and scenery instead of rady.
Your toyota friend is more then welcome, my toyota friend isnt able to make it this go around, but I do have a jeep coming. It isnt a landrover exclusive event, just a bunch of mates enjoying the back country

Trip is coming up quick!

Here's a few additional details, if you have any other questions, please ask!

The Town of Field is 4.5hrs(5ish hrs as im going via Nordegg for scenery) from Leduc. im leaving Leduc at 8am to be in field for 1ish to meet the south end of the province crew. From there, we will head towards revelstoke(does anyone know some crown nearby to camp? I'll have a look this week for a place, but if someone knows, post-it:) )

As for food, its a short-ish trip, please pack for yourself food, snacks and drinking water.

I will have my shower curtain and hot water on demand. Please bring your own showering water if you wish to use, as I cannot carry enough water for everyone to shower with.

We will be driving through a town almost every day, if you need to resupply, there will be time to do it.

*** I like to start my trips with a hardy breakfast, 7am Saturday I will be at the tutti frutti in Leduc (41 Athapaskan Dr, Leduc, AB T9E 4E4) and leaving 8am sharp, arrive fueled!

Are we meeting at the visitor centre in Field?

I would look at a rec site for the first night. The problem is things are hit and miss if they are full. I have not done any random camping in that area, so would need to hunt one down or talk to a local.

This looks like a good option.

Works for me, I found an open area north of that rec spot thats on crown, but that looks much nicer! We can try for that spot, my spot can be a back up.

Yoho trading post in field works, I think there's a fuel station there also for those of us with gas engines haha

Ok.
I thought I was in but I can't commit at this point. Halfway River Hot springs is nice. Can be crowded these days with a campsite there now and Google of course. Kootenays is always beautiful so I'm sure you will enjoy.

I receive the email announcements so will keep an eye open for future trips.

Is anyone bringing kids under 8?
If so, my 4yr old will come, if not then she will stay home, she will get pretty bored without another kid around lol

No kids with me.  Is anyone else bringing dogs?  I'm still debating on whether to bring Harry.

No dogs as they are not allowed at most springs and a 13 year old.

That was a GREAT TRIP!!!!    We had excellent weather, great company and saw lots of beautiful scenary!!

Bald Eagle, Great Blue Heron, Black Bear butt, Grizzly in a culvert trap being relocated, Fawn white tail, 5 adult white tail, Osprey, Two frogs and a million tadpoles, Buffle head duck, duck with ducklings (species unknown), One high pass and one spectacular view from a fire tower.

I figure I did right around 1700km total and used about 175 liters of diesel, had two ferry rides, stayed at free campsites, had at least a dozen Kudos from folks admiring the Landy and ate about 4 pounds of fine dust...

All in all that was a brilliant trip folks!

Here's the Google drive file, if you have any issues opening it, let me know. I did edit one video, itll be the only video with sound.

I'll edit more stuff in the coming days, does anyone object to me using their photos/videos to make a 2-3 minute video of the trip?
