Title: Top Gear toast
Post by: Trevor on March 26, 2015, 03:32 PM
Sooo, now that Clarkson is officially canned from Top Gear...

...what station do you think will pick him, Hammond and May up and start TG part due?

Russel Brand is ready to fill in.   ;D

Part of me wonders if the whole think was setup from the beginning so that when they start up on another network BBC can't complain.  The whole story about the producer being hurt enough to go to emergency seemed to go a bit far.  No photos of his injuries.

Great video :).

I'm sure those guys will land somewhere. I don't know if there is anything official about the other two leaving with Clarkson, but I would think there are already a few deals in the works with other networks to pluck the team out of the BBC.

I don't see Top Gear working well without those guys (or without just Clarkson even). I'm undoubtedly jaded because I've seen first hand how utterly horrible the syndicated shows can be, ala Top Gear NA. It really is all about the hosts, and it is tough replacing the chemistry that Clarkson et al have.

More or less it is clear the executive producer plus May and Hammond are leaving with Clarkson. He was the driving force behind the show writing most of it as well as developing the layout.

It was Clarkson's show until he sold his controlling share to the BBC.      Not to worry with the TV tax that everyone has to pay over there it won't affect the bottom line of the BBC's annual operating budget.   In fact....it just means they will have more money in their coffers to spend on bonuses!!!

I'm very curious to see what comes in it's place for 2016.     I hear there are three top gear hosts from the states looking for work...hahhahahah

"The whole story about the producer being hurt enough to go to emergency seemed to go a bit far.  No photos of his injuries."    One question I have is....if it put the guy in hospital why haven't any charges been laid?????    You'd think the producer would have at least had him charged.......

After the whole Jimmy Savile thing hit the fan in the UK and it was revealed how it may have been covered up by certain members of the BBC. So to prove things have changed they had to make an example of Clarkson.

Personally, although I enjoy TG I think it's time for something new anyway.

I'm not sure when it first aired (rather recently I think), but did you happen to catch the episode where Clarkson and May rescue Hammond off a mountain top in B.C.? I just watched it the other day, haven't laughed that hard in a while. There were some really great moments. Definitely worth watching if you can find it.

Haven't seen that episode yet. MY favourite features were when they undertook a ridiculous challenge or epic jurneys with cheap cars.

The exotic car stuff was watchable but ultimitly not as interesting.

More concerning than his "altercation", in a recent episode Clarkson praised the Pegeot 304 as being far superior to a Land Rover!!
Clearly he's gone mad.

It was the second to last episode, March 1.  Season 22, episode 6, if you find it...

I just record them from the TV on my pvr and watch them when I get a chance, so I don't have a link. Sounds like John has the episode nailed down though, which should get you pointed in the right direction.

The "story" is that he went to emergency on his own.  It is pretty hard to believe that the British media does not have one single photo of a swollen lip.

Here is how my theory goes....  Their contracts were set to renew April 1 for three years.  It is well known Clarkson hates the BBC.  I suspect he has received an offer to make the show elsewhere with full control.  If they had quit and started on another network, they probably would have been stopped by an anti-competition clause in the current contract.  By getting fired, he is free of these obligations.

Just watch the program on utube and pissed myself laughing.    'Get on to something vitally important....can we see the pudding menu????"

I enjoyed that!   And that's what I enjoy about the show.....nothing too serious but lots of good laughs ;D ;D

Yeah, some REALLY funny moments in that one.

The bit near the end when Hammond had the voodoo dolls of Clarkson and May still makes me chuckle when I think about it. That episode definitely sits in amongst the better ones they've done.

And as Matt correctly points out, this is what those guys do well.
