Title: clamp on DC ammeter
Post by: ugly_90 on December 19, 2020, 08:45 AM
I bought a clamp-on DC ammeter/multi meter a few weeks ago, and have finally used it in anger.

A very handy tool to have in DC troubleshooting, one can measure currents in-circuit, particularly helpful for measuring high starting currents, charging currents, intermittent parasitic loads, etc. It would probably be more valuable on a modern vehicle than a Series, Defender, or tractor, but it can help there as well.

A branded, professional clamp-on Digital DC ammeter is usually quite expensive. I bought my aftermarket unit from Amazon for $40, and it may be bought for less on Aliexpress, ebay or some other sites.

Model/Part# is Aneng ST209. I would suggest to have this one in your toolbox beforehand, as the lead times are quite long, and your testing would be severely delayed on waiting on it in the mail during a breakdown.

Good-Idea.  I spent big-bucks on one for mucking-around with batteries in electric cars, only to find-out it only measures AC.  Maybe that was only for large currents; I will have another look.

Ordered one, took 2 months to arrive.  Awesome value.  Ordered another one.  Thanks.
