It appears the new Ford Bronco is serious about giving the Jeep Wrangler a run for it's off road money. Patents for soft top, half doors, tube doors, rag top and a host of other gear that would make it desirable for a customer that would otherwise only be able to shop with Jeep to find these kinds of features.
Seeing as Land Rover has changed direction with the New Defender, making it more of a traditional SUV/Discovery type unit instead of a utility/Off Road unit the field is wide open for others to jump in.

The ford Ranger truck is a nice truck. My son bought one. Rides well and has some features for playing in the sand. I would expect the Bronco to top that. Will see in few month

It will be half two thirds the price of the Defender. Front and rear diff locks. Factory 35" tires. Factory bead locks. Body on frame, removable doors and roof. Disconnecting sway bars. Nice, simple mechanical off roader. The big difference is the Defender needs the electronic crap to function off road. This doesn't.
I like it has a 7 speed manual transmission option :D

Nufender is $65,300 to $93,600, with maybe a bit lower when a base 90 is offered.

I'm not gonna lie, my wife and I both have Jeeps. Mine is the Rubicon, and hers is a '94 Cherokee. She's been looking for something new next year. She likes my Wrangler and would get one for herself too. We test drove a 4Runner (too big), a Tacoma (too long), Gladiator(too long and too expensive), and she doesn't really like anything else. UNTIL NOW!!
The Bronco is a serious contender. She wants a test drive though, I guess next spring, before pulling the trigger. Fingers crossed that it's as cool as it looks in real life!
Meanwhile, I gotta wait to get my job back to continue my Defender 110 search. ;)
I loved the TJ, I wasn't a huge fan of the JK, Other than the four door concept was a brilliant idea for Jeep. Must admit to having my head turned by the new JL Wranglers though.
I am going in tomorrow to talk to the man about the horse.
I like base model with basic stick shift manual. No fancy gizmos. Delivery in ten month.

The more I look at this new Bronco, the more I think that Ford was really the last hope for Land Rover. This new Bronco looks like everything the new Defender should have been.
Hehe, I would imagine yhey took everything worthwhile with them when they sold LR to Tata, and then set about building a competitive vehicle to take on the Wranglers.
Well. Won't be buying or leasing the explorer. I will wait the ten month until it gets here. The good news is that you can get the stick shift in all trims. So V6 eco boost will kick &ss. Few weeks to build the ultimate off-roader.

I understood the manual is only going to be available with the 2.3L... did they release info the contrary?
edit: I read that they might consider adding the manual to other models if there is enough consumer demand. At this point, Ford should just go for it and give the people exactly what they want... the Bronco sounds really, really good.
Apparently a go fast desert racing Raptor version will be available for the 2022 model year.
Land Rover is my first vice, Ford is Second, this could get expensive

Interesting question "What options do I consider important on a 4wd?"
I think building in a massive blind spot over the rear windows so I can mount a ridiculously small suitcase to the side is of utmost importance. Wade-Aid, so I don't risk getting my loafers dirty by getting out of the vehicle. Ditto cameras pointing in every direction. A low rent $70k price tag for the "mizer"

My response was supposed to be a tongue in cheek parody of how Gerry McGovern would have answered.
Obviously I missed the mark somewhat but it made total sense in my own mind.
But then again I am English, so that may go some way to explain my rather disconnected humour. More tea Vicar?

A couple of new Bronco's doing Mickey's hot tub. This is pretty impressive for what appears to be 2 stock units. Anyone that's seen this hot tub knows that its deep and steep. I have not tried this one with my Disco yet as it weight make me a bit reluctant.

Pretty impressed how that Bronco suspension bites down and doesn't unload significantly coming out of their.
Once that second vehicle found the right line he made it look pretty easy. :)

Yes, they sure did.
The auto equipped unit (2nd truck) had way better control as you might expect but that is for sure a serious obstacle.

It's pretty clear that Ford did indeed pilfer all the top off roading engineers from Land Rover when they sold it. I'd read that several times before....this confirms it imo.
One thing I forgot to mention. There's not much info regarding the drivetrain in that video. I'm curious what the different setus are (if any) between the basic no-frill unit and the top offroading focused unit (ala the Rubicon).

Has similarities in appearance to the D90 actually. Nothing like the DC100 at all imo.

I looked at the specs. I thought the standard transmission will be made available on the V6.
Not clear on the various ratios that the offered on the transfer cases and differentials. How do you chose?
Many of these features are already on the Ford Ranger off roading truck too.
Manual on the 4 cylinder only. Another quality designed Getrag box that nobody trusts with the bigger engine.... ::)
Axle ratios are based on which trim group you purchase and relates to tire size.
Transfer case selection has not been set. I would not worry about that too much. The manual is 80:1 with the worst case gearing, basically double a regular Defender.

Useful manually controlled off road features. What a concept.
Trail turn assist - Locks the rear inside tire when the steering reaches full lock. Manual lockers that let you use either at any time. Manual sway bar disconnect that works while under full load.
And the US market battle between Jeep and Bronco is ramping up too. Some pretty nice features in there. Still no diesel eh.....
This was a good video John. I was going over the specs on Fords web site and was somewhat confusing. Am considering building the off road version to see how it comes out. Nice new features for sure.
