Title: 300 tdi timing belt cover drain plug
Post by: Cruzer on January 09, 2017, 09:39 PM
Should there be a standard drain plug of cover or
A breather hose set up. Put a new cover on and it came with
A standard plug. Old cover had a home made breather hose set up.

Maybe that's why the bearings rusted but thought I would ask

Lol

Yes, there is a drain plug on the bottom. The idea is you leave it out under normal driving and only install it when wading. There's an identical plug for the clutch housing.

When you say the timing belt cover has a breather hose...is that installed off the bottom plug hole? If so, I've never heard of that. Mind you I wouldn't be the one to offer insight into that, there's others here with a lot more experience on these engine. One can see odd things done to these though. My Defender 300 TDI had its plug filed smooth so the plug head was gone and you could barely make out that there was a hole there at all. Someone figured that was the thing to do I guess :).
