So you tried to save a few bucks and bought a full set of lights for your Rover project and the brake/ tail lights lasted 45 minutes. Before you go on the web and register your disgust through out the world. Here's how I fixed them.
The socket that holds the bulb is plastic and small step that holds the bulb strips out from the spring pressure.
I picked up a some of these sockets from Amazon,

removing the light and pulling the booty off being careful not to rip it. Gut the socket and send a 5/8" drill bit down the hole. This will get you 90% there. A small rotaty rasp on a drill ream the hole. you need the insert to fit snug. One you get it snug but not too sung, press the socket in. Refit the booty and your on your way.
