I about six months ago I had a Global Roamers Startrex hi torque starter installed in my 109 station wagon. The starter is now spinning out and won't engage most times. Takes 5 or 6 tries and seems to be getting progressively worse. Any recommendations where to start trouble shooting?

Most likely the bendix is sticking. There are different types of bendix so you need to pull the starter and look it over. If it is new and has a waarnty I would talk to Roamerdrive first.

I will second Red90's post.

They do stick but strange it has happened in a new starter? Warranty?

Anyway, pull it out and bench test it. Check that the spring is still there, check the bendix drive will ride up the ramps cut in the starter shaft and that the motor spins freely.

If it's stuck try cleaning it out and lubing with a good penetrating oil and re-test. I have resurrected many a old rusty starter using this simple method.

Make sure it is not loose - the upper bolt on mine came loose last summer and did the same until finally it would just spin.
