My wife has just received her first Canadian drivers licence. Do I need to tell the insurance company that she may now will be driving my vehicles for pleasure on occasion? I try to limit communication with insurance companies based on past negative experience.

Yes, any driver "living in the household" needs to be on the policy to use the vehicles.

Your rates will go through the roof.  One of the changes forced by the gubberment was that they can't rate by age or gender and so it only goes by years of driving and accident free.  As a new driver, you get the maximum rate.
