Took us a bit to find some info on it. No idea where it came from.

A bumper jack. There are hooks to catch the bumper and you spin the handle to raise and lower the vehicle. From the 50's and 60's I believe.

Yup, that's what it is!    I remember some heavy duty ones that they used in the garages like that too.   But most were replaced with hydraulic units.

This is why you see lots of old cars with bent bumpers.

The best factory car jack I've ever seen were the red Conran units that were supplied with LR's/RRC's in the 1990's. I must have half a dozen of them.
