Hi Everyone,
Scoped out the trail last weekend... Easy wheel to trail head, then some tight sections and creek crossings.
At the 3 KM mark, the trail comes to a bridge that is narrow (see picture)... Didn't risk the crossing without support vehicles. Could make some enhancements to the bridge or just ensure enough winch vehicles are out?
Another 5KM of ridge line after the bridge - all high alpine, no trees.
Proposed Itinerary:
Fri: Leave YEG @ 5:00 p.m. - Camp in Edson Area
Sat: Convoy Meet Tim's Edson @ 8:00 am
Crawridge Trail Head 12:00/1:00 P.M
Random Camp in Area or Campsite Options by Hinton
Sun: Depart for YEG

Yep. Looks nice. Have to see where is everything for that weekend.
Looks like a fun trip, slot me in. I'll have to sit as a "tentative" for a few more weeks as I've got something that might conflict with that weekend. Once I know for sure (start of August) I will confirm one way or another.
Found a good write up about the trail and surround areas. Grand Cache would be the launch point. It's about an hour west of Hinton roughly on HWY 40. Few camping areas around the hwy. also, a very active area for wild life. Diffinitly would make a fun outing camping trip.
Looks nice but a bit far away for me for a weekend. Have fun and take lots of pictures!
Think we'll get in on this one two. Hopefully with 2 running discos by then

Update
Last weekend biked well past the bridge and almost above treeline before rain forced retreat.
I have contacted the area Land Management and have necessary paperwork for obtaining a pass for access. Reason is our Rovers are not technically OHV. But this pass gives a real opportunity for access to otherwise off limits area!
The trail at start, is little tight with forest over growth. You will scratch some paint. Other than the bridge, it should be nice climb to the top.

I've got two of us in the 110 right now so we are using all the seat belts. But....if you can get yourselves to the trail head I can take one extra (w/o a seat belt) :)

Just got back from Caw Ridge, just north of Grande Cache....GREAT RUN!!!! Great vistas like the Boundary Lookout, but the drive in a week bit longer and there's a rickety bridge to test one's metal ;) We came very close to having to abandon this run due to a fire in the proximity but I guess the weather forecast came through and they gave Kerwin the go head. Gorgeous area with an abundance in camping opportunities and lots of trails. With talk around of banning all trails above 6000' I'm glad we got this one done.... May even have to sneak back for another run ;-)

I haven't read anything on that one specifically. I just get the sense that the government wants to close things down to 4x4's generally. That's not really new, as there were lots of special interests (read: businessmen who were high up in the PC party which also happened to own Quad/side-by-side dealerships) in the PC days that wanted to get 4x4's off the trails. It's just now it seems to be a bit more institutionalized what with Alberta Parks now assimilating SRD.

The SSRP talks of requiring closure to motorized use in delicate alpine areas. Certain people in Alberta parks have eluded to using elevation as a blanket basis for determining what trails are acceptable and what are not. It would not surprise me to see a park created that covers the remaining open portion of the divide above a certain elevation, thus making the closure clear and permanent.
Not that is matters, most likely, to us. I would not be surprised if trucks are blanket banned from all these new PLUZs and they only do a limited OHV trail system.
Ah. Found it. Proposed park from the SSRP covering the alpine. It is from 2014, and the park is not official yet, but is is probable it will come to pass next summer.

I have my appreciation to the alpine areas and their sensitive environments. However, it's difficult to comprehend such policies that have logging and mining all over the place then complain about recreational users. An outfit was in top of the ridge. Was not clear if it's for hunting or research. Mining areas were also visible.
A balance is needed. Quads and side by side are not the answer for sure.

I would have to say that must be due to operator error :) as I tried and I can view them without being logged in to facebook and in an incognito window. Try again and let me know if you are still unsuccessful.
When I click on the either of the two links listed above it opens face book and tells me I must be logged in to view it. So...I have no way of logging in right now as the boss is asleep and it's not safe to wake here ;)
Hold it.....I think I've got something sorted now. I have been opening the forum through IE with no luck with the links. But just for a lark I tried opening it on Google Chrome and it opened the link from there just fine. Don't know why one and not the other....but it works so I'm happy with it.
I wonder if Emad got some vid of 'the bridge' ::)

I agree.
It is pretty easy to comprehend. Mining, logging and grazing pay money to the government. Managing off road users and making sure they comply with the rules costs money.

I would tend to agree with your assessment...the debate seems to be around how/what/where OHV's will be allowed access. 4x4's thus far have been an easy outright ban.
Also, mining/ logging/etc have to reclaim land(at least in theory) went finished. Plus these are seen as necessary activities. Our use is seen as destructive and unnecessary by a tree-huggerish government
