Passing an AB OOP

Hi,

I'm new to this forum thing so first and foremost, Hello, my name is Justin. It looks like you guys have a pretty cool rover community (based on what I've read in the forum so far).

I am the new owner of a 97 disco that unfortunately has to get through an out of province inspection. it has a slight oil leak (valve cover gaskets), rear sunroof has been sealed shut, and the power steering box has a small leak. I've been investigating the PS box for leaks and I cant determine where it is originating, whether its bad O rings or the entire box, I still have a bit of diagnosing to do. I am worried this is enough to not pass the OOP. If not do you guys have any suggestions on where I could get my hands on one without paying the Atlantic British and Roversnorth high price?

And do you guys have any suggestions on a shop that would be willin to be lenient on these machines? I'm located in Calgary but willing to commute

I would be surprised if a small leak would fail an out of province......   Heck, that's how are land rover claim territory around the world!??!?

The place to go in Edmonton is the Sports Car Center.    I'm guessing on Calgary but I would think TRS auto (formerly known as) The Rover Shop.

Have you washed the engine down to get a good idea where the leak is coming from, or is the engine still a wee bit covered caked on oil  ;D

Thanks for the reply, I'll give TRS a shout Monday and see what they have to say. With regards to the PS leak, I gave the engine a good cleaning and ill have the Mrs. crank the wheel left and right and see if/where fluid is leaking. Would be great if its as simple as replacing the lines.

Britpart and Bearmach out of the UK are good options for replacement parts. If you were interested in joining the ALRE you can get a bit of a discount on parts from those vendors as well.

Hi - Auto Mann in Calgary are a British car specialist and there is a mechanic in there who knows Rovers. 

They are located just North of Glenmore and Blackfoot Trail.

Welcome.  I'm new here as well, but have  been wrenching hard and am very happy with my 66 Rover. 

BTW, how do I get a pic of the Blue Mosquito by my name??

The power steering box on these units are notorious leakers. More often than not it will be leaking from one (or both) of the sector shaft seals. That is the input shaft that the steering colum extension bolts to and the output shaft that the pitman arm bolts to.

It is possible to buy a seal kit and rebuild the box yourself or you can replace it with a rebuilt unit.

Sometimes a steering system stop-leak oil additive will stop or slow a minor leak but it's not a permanent fix. Be careful not to let the reservoir run low or you will kill your pump.

It would need to be quite a serious leak to fail an OOP inspection. A few drips or dampness around the box shouldn't be an issue. Same deal with the valve cover gasket.
