For the last week my 300 TDI has been squeaking under my disco hood, thought it was just a loose belt. :) I finally tighted belt and checked belt tensioner on other belt. All good

Ouch!
Is it just the pulley moving/loose on the crank nose?

I'm guessing it wasn't tight enough and slowly wore the shim then nose. There wasn't a shim to be seen

Can you weld it? The pulley and nose of the crank are wasted anyway. It will get you by until you can arrange a new crank install.

* I once had a Chevy pickup that had the same issue and I temporarily "fixed" it in this way. 3 years later it went to its new owner still running like a champ lol.

I would be more worried about the timing belt pulley coming loose. The crank pulley shares the woodruff key with the timing belt pulley.
