Title: Disco 2 transfer case cross member
Post by: Cruzer on November 21, 2016, 09:52 AM
I have made my own front cross member under transmission but never replaced the one under transfer case as I cut both off after fighting with bolts. Looking for some advise in regards to centre cross member. Should I have it there or will she be okay without ? I only have a 2 inch lift so I use to snag allot of things underneath, but I have started to rethink that I should have the centre cross member in place. Thought ?

Better to hit a cross member then a gearbox  ;D

Well, It's a chassis stiffener/cross brace that the Land Rover boffins thought was nessasary in the redesigned Discovery 2 chassis lay out that wasn't there in the older models. Adding large chassis components adds weight and reduces performance so they must have had their reasons.

If you are getting hung up on obstacles why not build a custom skid plate between the front and rear crossmembers?
