Dash cams and rear view cams

Anyone currently using dash cameras with any suggestions or recommendations?

My wife has an LR4 that has cameras 360* all around. We never use them.

My son has an aftermarket front dash cam that records when in motion. Very useful for accident evidence or disputes.
Back up camera on my Lincoln works very well as part of the Centre console. The proximity alerts also help.
However, the Disco 2 has minimum blind spots. So, I never bothered adding the other gadgets. Shoulder checks always work.

Rear view cameras in the next year or so are mandatory on all new cars like ABS and traction control.  If you wanted to add it to any vehicle with out a dash mounted screen a company called Rostra makes they units that are in your rear view mirror.   They make systems and components for many of the OEM's out there. I bought their Cruise control system for my mk2 GTI.

I visited a two-way radio shop here in GP. They were carrying DOD brand dash cameras, claiming to have Japanese glass optics, and Sony CCD sensor. The video feed from them looked great. I have no idea of price, but they seemed to be a consumer product and wouldn't sell if they were too expensive.

You might try the DOD units, they looked good. Not paying for a name like Nikon or Leica, but not buying Powerfist or Mastercraft either.

I have some interest in a combined dash cam review cam but I have not seen one. There are dash cams that look forwards and backwards but from the dash and not from the rear of the vehicle.

Perimeter cams are the new thing now. 360 degree views. Can come in handy when you are navigating tight corners or trails without mirrors.
The videos are for sure a double edge sword. Front dash cams have proven themselves useful during front collisions due to other drivers or pedestrians errors. I believe they are mandatory in Russia.
