Title: 98 Defender 300TDI Coolant
Post by: Cheat Otoole on March 13, 2019, 07:09 AM
Good morning.
I have looked on the internet and found contradictory reports of what type of coolant to use in a 98 Defender with a 300tdi. I have leak from the front of the motor, which I understand is not uncommon. Once I have found the source I may be back for more advice. For now though, what should I be using. Currently there is pink coolant in it which is OAT? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Green. Regular glycol. Don't use the organic pink/red/orange stuff.
The front cover P gasket is prone to leaking on the 300tdi.

Make sure that you keep it topped up.  The water pump is very high on those engines and any loss of coolant results in loss of pumping.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like it's the P Gasket. The water pump doesn't seem to be leaking. I'll keep an eye on the coolant level until I get it changed.
