Looking for a 'swing away' style spare wheel carrier for the back of my Defender.
Cheers
Matt.

Bert built one for me (he didn't like me having the spare on the bonnet)....we spent a Saturday at the shop building this rear cross member mounted beast!   Solid as a rock and very easy to build.    We used a 1300lb trailer spindle from Princess.   Simple, strong and adabtable for tire size.

That's a good idea Bill. I'd need to build a "swing away" bracket off the back door though as I would like to have single operation opening of the rear door.

I made my own around 6 years ago and it opens with the door.  I used these hinges, https://www.rcpw.com/truck-accessories/strap-hinges/B2426FSNB.html  They have plastic bushings and have no play to date. I widened the truck side to take two bolts and it is more than strong enough to jump on the tire without fear.
